Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY). This central scheme, implemented through the Per Drop More Crop component, provides subsidies of up to 55% for small and marginal farmers (and around 45% for other farmers) on micro-irrigation systems, including drip and sprinkler irrigation.
State-specific top-up subsidies. Many states add their own top-up subsidies on top of the central scheme, which can push total support significantly higher in certain regions. These vary by state and change periodically, so it's worth checking current rates before planning your budget.
Polyhouse and protected cultivation subsidies. Several state horticulture departments offer subsidies of 50% or more on polyhouse and shade-net structures, often combined with support for drip irrigation inside the structure.
NABARD-linked financing. Beyond direct subsidies, NABARD refinances loans for farm mechanisation and irrigation infrastructure through various banks, often at favourable interest rates for eligible farmers.
What you'll typically need to apply. Most schemes require land ownership documents, a quotation from an approved equipment supplier, and in many cases a Detailed Project Report. Applications are usually processed through the state agriculture or horticulture department portal.
